Krod Mandoon and the flaming sword of fire -Coming to Comedy Central

Great Title.

Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire is a groundbreaking action-comedy that is equal parts workplace comedy and sword and sorcery fun. An outrageous, live-action, character-driven show set in an ancient fantasy realm, the series follows reluctant hero Krod Mandoon, a thin-skinned and underconfident freedom fighter, who is the last great hope in the struggle against the evil ruler, Chancellor Dongalor.

To help fight the great fight, Krod has assembled a band of remarkably ineffective freedom fighters: Aneka the beautiful Pagan warrioress whose weapon of choice is sex, Loquasto the oafish servant with bad aim, Zezelryck the young warlock whose greatest magical gift is spinning BS, and Bruce, who's simply fabulous. Together, they must overcome a myriad of evil obstacles in their quest to save the world, including name-calling, hired assassins and bad hair days.

I don't usually watch too much Comedy Central, but I'll be watching for this on April 9th at 10PM. If for no other reason than the chick is hot!

  1. Grrrrrr...video clip won't play for me here in Canada...

Sounds cool (a lot like the played-for-fun Wizards & Warriors back in the 80's).

It's biggest problem will be that it's up against Burn Notice which, I am thinking, shares much the same demographic in terms of target markets.

  3. Ooo, the villain is one of the guys from Little Britain. He's really funny. I'd give this a shot, if I had cable.

    I really miss having cable.

  4. I don't really want to be a downer, but are you joking? That was no more sword & sorcery than LotR or your average D&D set-up. Sure, genre definitions could be argued ad nauseum but I saw nothing that was true S&S in that. In fact, if that's S&S, then there's a lot more of it out there than I thought. Just looks like medieval fantasy adventure to me.

Humor sword & sorcery crap along with bad Conan pastiche is what killed the genre to begin with. That's why publishers and editors and many readers won't touch it. You have to label everything heroic fantasy to have a hope.

I tell people that someone like Karl Edward Wagner writes good S&S and they picture this kind of crap. Or worse, stuff that's actually funny but not intentionally.

Sorry for the rant, the words sword and sorcery and the presence of this just flipped me out.

  5. Anon-
Different strokes my friend. It's just a parody of the genre, played for laughs.

  6. I'm amazed, I was prepared to dislike this because it attacks my sacred cow of S & S, but I found myself laughing. I will have to give this a try.

  7. Anon - those movies that killed the genre were different in that they were trying to be serious and failed. This is a comedy from the get-go and comedy is certainly not what killed the genre. Every S&S movie ever made pretty much killed the genre in film.
Reminds of the Brian Posehn bit about getting a nerd's obsession wrong. Geez.
