It seems that Dominik, over at Rollenspiel-Almanach Enjoyed LoS, and gave us only a few dings on layout. Overall he had really good things to say.

Multiplicity

If you like a game, and I mean really like a game, do you buy multiple copies of it?

If your at a Games store or at a Goodwill and you see a copy of an RPG you like but already have, will you pick it up if you see it for like 3-4 bucks?

I noticed the other day that I have several copies of Top Secret/SI and several copies of the Basic D&D Rules compendium. And I'm sure that if I'm walking through a Goodwill and I happen to spot another Top Secret/SI boxed set I'll buy that as well.

I mention Top Secret/SI because I really enjoy the game, and since I have multiple copies of it, running it is easy on both myself and my players. It's a much easier sell to them if I let everyone know that I have extra copies of everything so no one has to spend any money.

Personally, I want a St. Cuthbert Jersey!

Okay, I'm usually not into Geek Chic. but this...this my friends is just too fricken cool! Holloway fans, Check it out!

It's all coming together

A few weeks ago I posted that the Minions and I have really gotten into Heroclix. Part of the Heroclix experience is explaining the powers and backgrounds of the various characters, which is really cool for me because I'm suddenly, once again the Comic Guru that I was many, many years ago.
"Who is this guy dad?"
"How did she get her powers dad?"
"Hey dad, why doesn't Quicksilver like the Vision? I thought they were both Avengers?".

Sometimes the answers come easy, some times they take a while to explain (such as Pietro's problem with his sister marrying an android).
"She-Hulk is not Hulks wife."
"Wonderman is dead, but not really-and he's no relation to Wonder Woman."
"Yes, Wildcats costume looks a little silly, but he was one of the first guys to teach Batman how to fight, so show some respect."

Interestingly the Minions have quite a bit of Superhero/Villain knowledge, but theirs comes from cartoons, hence it's flawed knowledge. the true lore comes from the comic books and I'm quick to point that out to them. Still its a start, and shows like Batman Brave and the Bold do kick ass.

All of this Comic book reminiscing has led me to revisit my collection. and in doing do has irritated "She who must be obeyed" as she is constantly coming across comic books and comic bags all over the house. This predicament has led me to seek a solution in the 21st century-Digital comics.

Thanks to my handy-dandy Asus notebook and my link to The Crosseyed-Cyclops blog (One of the coolest and most useful blogs out there) I've been able to download many of the comics I already have, for instant (and no-mess) gratification. and it's a helluva lot easier to carry full runs of Master of Kung Fu, The Defenders, and Sgt Rock on a thumb drive than in my man-bag.

Of course I'll concede to all the purists out there that nothing compares to holding the real thing in your hand, but at my age and lifestyle I've become more of a realist, and if there's anything I can do to make my life easier, then thats the road I'm taking.

So all in all things are pretty good in the Fanboy area. I'm playing with my kids, I'm their font of knowledge in all things Marvel/DC, I'm embracing new technology and have found yet another use for my netbook, and I'm reading the old stuff again.
Good times.

Cool Gamer movie Alert- The Forbidden Kingdom

Caught this on DVD with the minions today. Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Kung Fu, Whitehaired assassin chicks, lots of great fight scenes, what's not to love? It's reasonably family friendly with lots of cool gamer geek fodder to put away for your next exotic fantasy setting game. Great way to while away sometime on a sunday afternoon.



The Forbidden Kingdom

A few months ago I ran across a complete boxed set of the World of Greyhawk at a Goodwill store. I quickly snatched it up. I didnt need it, but I kinda felt bad about seeing it languishing there amongst the jigsaw puzzles. Nobody at the store even knew what it was, they thought it was a fricken jigsaw puzzle. I opened it up and saw it was complete and in pristine condition, somebody loved and cared for this game. There were even some notes scrawled in pencil, the seeds of a campaign no doubt. I wonder what happened to the guy who owned it?
Personally if you ever find any games I own at a Goodwill it's because I'm dead.

The happy ending is that it found a home with a good friend who had mentioned in passing he no longer had a copy of his own.

Warriors and Warlocks with Legends of Steel

I just picked up a hardcopy of the Warriors and Warlocks supplement for the Mutants & Masterminds system. I bought the PDF a while back and overall I enjoyed reading it. But, as it’s been said many times before-while they serve a useful function, PDF’s do not replace the joy of holding a real book. With the purchase of the hardcopy, Warriors and Warlocks has gone from a file on my hard drive to a supplement I will actually use. I see a great deal of similarities between Warriors and Warlocks and Legends of Steel. It looks like the team from Green Ronin and I were on the same sheet of music most of the time. I even heard from one of the authors of Warriors and Warlocks who said there were a few things in LoS that he wished he would have thought of (That comment made my day).

I’ve been picking up a bunch of M&M stuff in anticipation of getting a game together. I think that the Warriors & Warlocks supplement and Legends of Steel campaign world would make a great combination.

Hey that’s not a bad idea…

Dealing with encumberance

I don't often do personal posts since that really isnt what this blog is about. But, I have to throw this out for all you guys who might benefit from the info. I joined Weight Watchers in April. It wasn't an easy decision for me mostly because of my own ego and dumb sense of pride, but my weight became a medical issue that only worsened after I was in the accident. I'm not a spokesperson for Weight Watchers but since joining in April I've lost 23 pounds, which for me is pretty damn good. And I did it by not torturing myself with any stupid diets. They have this point system that helps you control the portions of what you already eat,rather than force you too eat crap like celery and kale.

Ok, so bottom line, guys if you need to drop some weight and do it with as little discomfort as possible, check out weight watchers, swallow your pride and damn any feelings of embarrassment. If you give it a chance it will work.
