Yes, I'm a Dumbass

I downloaded a virus. My computer is locked up. I'm typing this from the childrens section at the local library. my big ass in a little tiny chair, typing on a color coded keyboard that looks like something out of a fischer price catalog.
This sucks.

Will it boot in Safe Mode? Try that and do a full virus and spyware scan with your anti-virus and your mulitple anti-spyware programs. You do have all that. Right?

Then when it's clean, set up a third-party firewall like Comodo or Online Armor or at least Zone Alarm.

  2. Dude, I am totally sorry... but you just made my day. :)

Something about how you wrote that is just hilarious.

Good luck man, and I'd suggest burning your computer to the ground and starting over.

Nothing to be ashamed about. This happens to all of us - sooner or later. :(

    Ha!

I did too! Or rather, my daughter clicked on a trojan, but I'm the dumbass that let my anti-virus software expire and didn't renew it for six months.

Isn't it cool how blogs let you connect with dumbasses just like yourself all around the world.

  8. It happens to the best of us. I've been on a Mac, though, for the last several years, so I've yet to experience the joy of a virus again.

Jeff, do you have a good anti-virus program??

The free one's are extremely capable. I've been using Avira AntiVir and haven't had a problem since. Of course, I never had a problem when I used AVG Free or Avast! either. They all would come down like a freakin' anvil when something would try to come in. But they haven't even gotten that far since I started using a third-party firewall. For that I use Online Armor, but ZoneAlarm Free would do the job just as well and is so user-friendly it hurts.
