DIcey Tales #1

The first issue of Dicey Tales will be coming out this weekend. It will be released as an $8.00  PDF download over at RPGNow.

Dicey Tales is a periodical that features articles supporting the Barbarians of Lemuria (BoL) roleplaying game. Our goal is to expand the reach of BoL beyond Sword & Sorcery into the full realm of the pulps. Every issue features official expansions of the BoL rules allowing the system to encompass all of the various genres of pulp adventure- Two-fisted adventure, Western, Outer Space, Lost World, and many more.

Issue #1 of Dicey Tales launches our two-part foray into the classic adventure pulps. With this issue of Dicey Tales the world of daredevils, soldiers of fortune, occult investigators and cloaked crime-fighters will now be fully incorporated into the BoL system.

New “Adventure Pulp” Character generation rules
New Careers
New Boons
New Flaws
New rules for Magic, Psychic Powers, Super Science Gadgets, firearms and vehicles
Two complete adventures

All officially approved for use with the Barbarians of Lemuria: Legendary Edition rules.

I've decided not to send out "Review Copies" this time around.  I've tried it before with my various versions of LoS and never really  received much feedback.  A few good folks turned in reviews, but compared to the number of free copies I gave out, the response was just too small. That's not to say no one will be getting a free copy- all the folks who helped out with DT are on the list as well as a few "Friends of the Lair".

Erisa in Black and White

In anticipation of the Legends of Steel ZeFRS Edition I thought I would share with you the the new map for the interior of the book. The map is actually the same but instead of just doing it in grey-scale Jason Chalker did a complete re-rendering of it in Black and White. The result as you can see is very sharp and crisp.  This will be the map in the center spread pages of LoS ZeFRS. which should be out by late January or early February.

My RPGNow "Staff Reviewer" rant

So after a year of selling my various editions of Legends of Steel on my own, I'm persuaded by a friend to put them up on RPGNow. The move appears to have been a good one. Yes, I lose a percentage of each sale, but the supplements are now being seen by a much larger audience. As a result, sales have improved nicely.
I do have one gripe though.
When you post your book for sale, they ask if you would like to send a copy to the "staff reviewers" at RPGNow. I checked ok (a little added publicity never hurts right?).
So then I post the books and almost immediately a couple of dozen books fly out the door-but at $0.00.  These are the review copies. Okay, so I wait. It's been about a month and so far I see one staff review of one of the LoS books.
Maybe I should give it a bit more time, but one review after a month seems a little sparse. I'm wondering if these "Staff Reviewers" really do all that much reviewing or are these guys just buddies of the owners who get treated to free copies of peoples stuff?
It reminds me of when I first came out with Broadsword and LoS.  I sent out a bunch of review copies to friends, Blog owners and "message board royalty" in the hopes of getting some reviews back. A few solid guys reciprocated with reviews, but most just put me off with excuses. Needless to say I don't send out review copies anymore, and next time around I dont think I'll be checking that box on RPGNow.

It's called Aurora

The world is called Aurora.
It is an alternate Earth during a period akin to our own mid 1800's.
Magic works but is not a common occurrence.
Aurora is a world in transition as new technologies begin to slowly replace the “old ways” of magic and the supernatural.

The main tags for this setting would be:
Heroic Adventure and Romance, Sabers and Pistols, The Flashman Chronicles, Cannons and Hussar, Gypsies and Witches, Tai-Pan, The Brothers Grimm, Prisoner of Zenda, The Mad King, Stardust, El Borak, Jim Grimm, Kipling, The Black coat, Jack of all Trades.

Evil DM Productions (EDMP)

Con on the Cob
I had made plans to attend Con on the Cobb in Ohio. Well of course the surgery prevented that from happening. Since EDMP had already paid for table space, Chris agreed to man the table and take down emails for a free gift for stopping by. My fear was that the poor guy would be just sitting there doing nothing. Well that turned out not to be the case. Chris was able to show off his artwork including several pieces that he’s working on for the “Lost World of Hador”. He also had to state several time that he was not The Evil DM. Chris was also able to network and Schmooze with industry folks and all in all he reported having a good time. The folks who signed up for the “free gift” received a free PDF copy of Legends of Steel-Savage Worlds.

Legends of Steel
Speaking of Legends of Steel, in March we released the Savage Worlds Edition, Followed by the Broadsword Edition, And most recently the Barbarians of Lemuria Edition. Each version so far has garnered good reviews, including a great one on Amazon. LoS has been featured on “The Games the thing” podcast and on the “Game Geeks” You Tube show. We received a few dings for layout issues, but as far as the content, it’s all been positive. We are continuing our efforts to make LoS available to as many gaming systems as possible. The New Year should see the release of the ZeFRS edition of Legends of Steel and a Legends of Steel supplement for the new edition of the Basic Action Game System.

Partnerships
In recent months EDMP has been able to form creative partnerships with other companies, most notably Beyond Belief Games –creators of the Barbarians of Lemuria (BoL)RPG, and Basic Action Games- Developers of the Basic Action Super Heroes (BASH) line of RPG products. Since EDMP focuses on support products and campaign resources, rather than system creation, We believe these partnerships will enable our products reach a larger market as we assist and support existing RPG product lines Such as the BoL and BASH RPG engines in addition to continuing our support for the Savage World’s and 1PG systems.

GenCon

Evil DM Productions Message Boards

Did you know that we have a Message board?
Not many people do it seems.
Hell, I even forget sometimes.

Message boards are easy to start, but a helluva lot of work to keep going. And I must admit I haven't been as attentive to it as I should have.

The Evil DM Productions Forum is a good idea because not only do I have a section dedicated to all the gaming stuff I'm creating but I also have a large portion of it dedicated to genre topics that I enjoy.
Pulp fiction and gaming
Historical Fiction
Men's adventure fiction

I'll be posting more there and try to create some discussion. I'm also hoping that the upcoming release of the Legends of Steel-Barbarians of Lemuria Edition will invigorate the boards with more posts. I really think that the forums could be successful and entertaining, so I'm asking you guys here to stop by and have a look around. And of course any suggestions would be appreciated.

1946

I've been working quite a bit lately with Simon of Beyond Belief games as we get Legends of Steel-BoL edition ready for release and he started talking to me about "Guns of Laredo" this is a Western RPG he's been working on using the BoL rules. Guns of Laredo (GoL) will be set in a fictional west more akin to the spaghetti westerns of the 60's and 7
0's than to the usual "John Ford western" or even the historical west. Simon's approach appealed to me as i have always been a fan of the adult western series paperbacks that flooded bookstores in the 80's ( Edge, Ruff Justice, Adam Steele, Lonestar, the Gunsmith, the Renegade,etc.).
I then started talking to Simon about my ideas for a pulp rpg set in the post war era rather than the typical pre-war 1930's.

As the discussion evolved it became more and more apparent that the early post WWII years would be an awesome time to run a pulp game in. In fact
many of the same tropes you find in your standard 1930's pulp era still apply, with the added bonuses of the dawn of the atomic age and a whole rewrite of the world map taking place.

The world at that particular time was a great big jumble of chaos, and a group of "Adventurers" with a set of balls could set themselves up for life by running guns, smuggling refugees, hunting Nazis, thwarting Commies and maybe even uncovering the seeds of a possible alien invasion.

And so was born my next foray into the BoL system which I am naming 1946.
I figure between Louis L'Amour adventure stories, the Republic serials, and all the Manly men mags of the period I'll have plenty of fodder for thought.

LoS review from Germany!

Los just got a nice review in German!
Somebody tell me what it says!
Just kidding.

It seems that Dominik, over at Rollenspiel-Almanach Enjoyed LoS, and gave us only a few dings on layout. Overall he had really good things to say.
