The end is near.

Legends of Steel- Savage Worlds Edition is going through a second round of editing. This should be the last hoop. The cover and interior art are all ready. Following this last bit of editing it's off to Heyoka to be scheduled for Layout.


I've found a cover artist for Lost World of Hador. We are currently tweaking the sketches. Ryan is working on the map and the manuscript is coming along nicely. Hador should follow right on the heels of Legends of Steel by a month or two, and then it's time for serious work on Mission: Adventure!

A Christmas classic-Island style

I spent several years in Hawaii. Christmas in Hawaii is very special holiday. They don’t have the blustery weather and the snow men, so they give it a twist of their own and go all out in their special Island way.
A place that is already one of the friendliest places around becomes even more friendly. 

One of my most memorable experiences was hearing a local musician by the name of Willie K. perform his rendition of “Oh holy night”.  his performance blew me away. the passion in his voice, the power of his words, the beautiful translation in Hawaiian, the whole experience moved me to tears. Willie K’s rendition of Oh Holy night became my favorite Christmas song of all, and every time I hear it I’m back in the islands, if just for a few minutes.

Children of the Lion

  Written by a variety of authors under the pseudonym Peter Danielson, This historical fiction series begins with Abraham’s journey to the land of Canaan to claim it for his people in the name of God.  This is a sweeping epic that stretches nineteen volumes. I’m not sure that I'll read all of them but I found seven volumes at a thrift store, so we’ll see what happens. I’m currently reading the first and enjoying it. the cover art on these remind me of the Kent family chronicles written by John Jakes. The Children of the Lion series was published in the 80’s during a period where stories of this size were very popular.   I could see this as a setting for ZeFRS.  I checked to see if Green Ronin’s D20 game Testament had anything referencing this, but it didn't.  It would be easy to dismiss this as a romance novel when glancing at it on a bookstore shelf, but from what I’ve read so far its a nicely detailed work of historical fiction. It appears decently researched and offers an interesting day to day view of characters and peoples that most of us only know through history books, Cecil B. Demille epics, or from reading the old testament.

pulp story outline with a twist

We all know about Indiana Jones and his globetrotting adventures battling Nazis and “rescuing” artifacts.
But I was just thinking about a twist to the pulp adventurer plot.

Hitler supposedly sent teams of agents throughout the world to collect artifacts and conduct occult research. I was thinking about a German adventurer, an officer/scientist who serves his country in this respect. To make the character more sympathetic we can use the “I’m a German officer, not a Nazi” trope. Suppose he is sent for some powerful artifact, but during the adventure he has a crisis of conscience and decides to destroy the artifact rather than let it fall in the hands of Hitler and his cronies? He’s not a traitor so giving the artifact to the allies is not an option. He would have many of the same antagonists that Dr. Jones would have including the allies. Possibly an Indiana Jones style adversary with whom he tangles with from time to time. Our hero is in fact a hero, he just works for some nasty hombres. This might make a nice short story or a limited run comic.

Still finding love for VHS

The other day we ended up with an extra TV and VHS recorder. I figured since no one was using it I’ll hook it up in the storage room where I work on my Joes. It’s working out great. I happen to have a bunch of movies that I don't have on DVD yet, movies like Hawk the Slayer, the Diamond of Jeru, Villa Rides, and others.
I’ve also found that VHS tapes are dirt cheap at used record stores, flea markets and thrift stores I can usually find them for .99 cents and some times as low as .50 cents.
It’s great to have Krull or The Longest Day playing in the background as I kitbash away.

Here are a few bashes I've been working on.

I'm creating additional Characters for my Webcomic I Garrote the Medusa. Here is my take on a 2nd edition AD&D Paladin. I think the headsculpt looks quite "Paladinish" or is it "Paladiny?" Anyway, I think he conveys the Paladin character class quite well.





I took the inspiration for this guy from a couple of different sources. first, in a series of adult pulp westerns called The Renegade, the hero has a disreputable sidekick named Gaston, A deserter from the Foreign Legion who would slice your throat for a bottle of tequila.
The second source was the Captain of the tramp steamer The Rita. from the 1954 classic the Creature From The Black Lagoon. I was going for the untrustworthy jungle guide who would betray you once you locate the Lost City of Gold.

My buddy Ed Cassar used a General Patton head, dirtied it up, and drilled out some teeth.

"Ahh,The Jungle ees a most dangerous place senor. One misstep and she will kill you."



My last guy is a Bounty hunter. I took the head from a Viking figure and a hat from a Blues Brothers knock-off figure. And voila! Badass bounty hunter dude. he would probably fit in nicely in a Dogs in the Vineyard game.
