TSR Minigames
Tonight the oldest minion and I played Revolt on Antares. one of my favorite of the "Old School" TSR Minigames that came out in the 80's. It was a fun game but I forgot how damn small the game boards were. It really takes a decent Dex to keep the pieces from flying all over the place. I have almost all of them I just need Dracula and The Alamo and my TSR Minigame collection will be complete!

My brother used to have They've Invaded Pleasantville, but I was too young to get how to play very well. These reminded me of those DVD-case-sized Steve Jackson games like O.G.R.E. - travel-sized but God help you if there's a breeze 'cause your pieces will never been seen again!
ReplyDeleteStill looks like a lot of fun, though. I might have to hit Crazy Egor's next Gen Con and see if they've got a copy....
I've considered making a larger board for Revolt on Antares, so that the pieces could comfortably fit in the hexes.
ReplyDeleteI still have Revolt on Antares and Saga. Revolt was one of my favorites too. I made a Diplomacy mod for it one time, but couldn't get anyone to play it. I played OGRE, Melee, Wizard, Death Test, and others from the Metagaming line. I still have Invasion of the Air Eaters, Sticks and Stones (two copies), and Chitin I.
ReplyDeleteAt office stores you can buy flexible acrylic see-through desk mats. (So people can put phone lists and stuff under them.) Not only are these great for laying over the old micro-game mats to keep them flat and essentially fixed on the table, they make a better surface for the counters. The acrylic has a slight rubbery "grip" to keep the pieces from accidentally shifting and it doesn't pop up and down like the unaided map will when you pick up or drop counters. (My helpful hints from Heloise!)
