Amazon.com is now carrying the hardcopy version of Legends of Steel –Savage Worlds Edition.  The price of course is too damn high. But the fact is that it’s there is kinda cool (looks good on a resume), and any publicity is good publicity right?

If any of you have purchased Legends of Steel-Savage Worlds Edition and would like to comment on it on Amazon It would be greatly appreciated.

My newest obsession- Heroclix!

           I was at my favorite comic book store the other day (Empire Comics) picking up my issues of Warlord, Agents of Atlas, and Red Sonja when I spied a big ass comicbook storage box full of Heroclix.  Now I know what Heroclix are and I’ve even bought a few to use in my roleplaying games or as a geek badge for my computer at work, but I never played the game. I asked Ben how much he wanted for the whole box.  We agreed on a price and Voila I had a collection. Of course they were a collection of mostly “commons” with a few of the rarer ones thrown in, but hey my kids don’t know the difference, all they know is dad came home with a huge box full of super heroes and villains.

My Minions had a few heroclix of their own which they used as soldiers and kept in a Bailey’s Irish Cream gift tin, but they never played an actual game. We proceeded to sort through the figures and learn the rules. It turns out the game is easy to learn, very strategic and way fun to play. So fun in fact that we have been playing steadily since we got them (and yes I’ve bought a couple of booster packs since then). I was very surprised at how informed the minions were on the various Super heroes and Villains. All the stuff I learned about Marvel and DC heroes through the comic books they have learned by watching X-Men,Teen Titans, Spiderman, Brave and the Bold, etc. on Cartoon Network.

Help us fix our boring character sheet

As many of you know we are working on a Legends of Steel edition for the ZeFRS RPG system. 

One thing we are lacking is a snazzy LoS/ZeFRS character sheet (the key word here being “snazzy”).We have a bare-bones version that needs a bit of dressing up. What we are looking for is someone who could give our character sheet a make-over. So we decided to have a contest and see if there are any character sheet DaVinci’s out there.

So taking the elements of the character sheet presented, come up with your best rendering of a Legends of Steel flavored character sheet for the ZeFRS game. You can redesign to your hearts content, as long as the elements below are all there. 

We will choose one winner based on presentation and functionality.

The winner will have their sheet included in the LoS-ZeFRS campaign book with appropriate citation and also receive a copy of both the PDF and print versions of LoS-ZeFRS.

The contest ends on June 20th 2009 at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time).

In fact, he has a good job, likes girls, he's graduating with honors, and he's just  enrolled in college.

Gabriel Hunt

Well, I'm Reading the first Gabriel Hunt book. I'm really sorry to say I'm not particularly wowed by it so far. My first major disappointment with the book is when I found out several pages in that it's set in the modern world. I had mistakenly assumed that the series would be taking place in the 1930's or maybe even the post WWII era. The only thing that is even remotely "pulpy" is the fact that the hero uses a .45 revolver. Other than that it reads like a contemporary adventure story Ala James Rollins or Matthew Reilly. Maybe it will grow on me in the upcoming chapters but right now I'm just not feeling it.

So whats up with Hador?

Work on Hador has been very active on several fronts as of late. Chris sent me some great sketches for review of one of the races that will be enountered on the moon of Hador. Ryan is diligently working on the map and probably shaking his fist every time I email him little tweaks like "I need a real big lake here-make it so". And the World is really coming together for me the same way Erisa did in Legends of Steel. I'm a fan of subplots and side-treks, so I'm coming up with some ideas that I think will give adventurers in a Lost World plenty to keep them occupied. I have a few of the classic tropes and plenty of new twists on some familiar themes. And though Hador is built around a specific adventure, the GM can completely disregard it and still have plenty of action and danger to throw at the players by just pointing in a direction and heading out.

The plan is to have Hador out before the end of summer.
But of course like the old saying goes : "If you want to give God a good laugh tell him your plans".

Star Trek- Go see it.

Wow. What a great movie. I'm not a Trekkie, but I loved Star Trek when I was a kid. Every day after school I watched the ultimate entertainment trifecta for a Preteen boy The Three Stooges- Looney Tunes- Star Trek (Original Series-Thank you). I didnt care too much for the movies and I never watched any of the new star trek shows, so I wasnt up in arms when I heard that the franchise was getting an overhaul, and frankly from the movies I did see (except for Wrath of Khan) it needed one.

This group of kids did a Bang up job and breathed new life into the series (Karl Urban is spot on as "Bones").
I loved it, the Minons loved it, even "She who must be Obeyed" loved it and all she knew about Star Trek is that it was a space show her mom watched.

Gabriel Hunt is out!

I just picked up the new Gabriel Hunt book. It's the first in what I hope is a long and exciting series. *fingers crossed*

I'll be reading Gabriel Hunt: At the Well of Eternity next, right after I finish up the last book in the Destroyermen series (reading it now).

I'll post my thoughts about it real soon.

The Destroyermen

There are books you read, books you plod through, and books you consume.  At the moment I'm consuming the Destroyermen series of books by Taylor Anderson. The story is about a US Navy Destroyer-USS Walker- that heads into a large storm to avoid being sunk by a Japanese Cruiser during a battle in the South Pacific during WWII. After successfully riding out the storm they find themselves in a parallel world almost identical to Earth, with the main exception being that Man never evolved, but other creatures have.

The Destroyermen series is a great read - with interesting characters, vivid battle scenes and a loving amount of attention paid to detail and historical accuracy.

Funny thing is, in the next Product from Evil DM Productions, The Lost World of Hador there is a group of sailors from a Japanese courier ship from the Russo/Japanese War of 1904 who were lost in a storm and landed on Hador. Great minds think alike.
