Mini Six

I just downloaded Mini Six. I like what they've done with it. I understand the rise and fall of WEG is quite a story. You'll have to look it up somewhere else though.  All I'm gonna say is that this volume looks nicely put together and the price is right. I'll have a more in depth look later once I wrap up some of my Dicey Tales commitments.

Bittersweet Serenity

Every year I get my DVD collection of Firefly and Serenity and watch the whole saga. Today was that day. And as always it was a bittersweet experience for me. I love everything about this series from the haunting melody of the theme to the "Grrr, Arrgh" at the end. Its safe to say its my favorite TV show of all time. And as much as I enjoy watching it, I also get mad when I think of its too short life. When I think of all the crap that gets renewed season after season- ah there I go again. 


 I suppose all fans feel that way. I'm sure there are "Model Latina" fans out there campaigning for a new season who could care less for Captain Mal and his crew.
I can at least take comfort in the fact that I have the DVD set and the movie to console me (There are fans of the High Chaparral and Thundarr the Barbarian who don't even have that).

Manly Monday - South of the border, down Mexico way

 I spent today writing. In the background I have three of my favorite westerns playing.
 I love westerns set in Mexico. Once Simon is done with Guns of Laredo" I'm coming out with a source-book dealing with  western characters adventuring outside of traditional settings. I'm calling it "Beyond Laredo". 

Doc Rotwang Strikes Again!

The other day over at Doc Rotwangs blog  He wrote a simple passage about a game I hadn't really thought about in years. 

He didn't post too much about it, actually it was just more of a reminiscence than anything, but it got me thinking  (which he often does, despite his sparse posting). The Star Wars game would be a nice introduction to Space Opera gaming for the Minions.  They play Basic D&D, but we haven't strayed into the space lanes yet.  
I was watching George Lucas on the Daily Show where he was saying that despite the protestations of the Old Guard, todays batch of Star Wars geeks have their own favorite characters, and they ain't Han, Luke, or Chewy. 
Kids actually like Jar-Jar Binks (which I know for a fact to be true, having tiny minions of my own).
My Minions know the Clone Wars on TV they could care less for Obi-Wan and Princess Lea. 




So I'm gonna dust off my copy of the 1st edition rules ( I have the rulebook and the Star Wars source book). And see what other sources I can find out there. 
I hear the 2nd edition -Revised and Expanded edition is the one to have, but for now I'm gonna keep it simple for both me and my guys. 
I know as well that WOTC has a version out there, but my goal is cost containment and ease of play for the little ones.


But I will put a call out to any of you guys who have any first edition material your not using (modules etc.) if you want to toss them my way I'll pay postage. I promise they will go to a good cause (Warping young minds).

Manly Monday - The Magnificent Seven

I distinctly remember playing this movie out on the living room carpet of my grandparents house.
Plastic toy cowboys, plastic horses and wagons, and a village made out of empty Kleenex boxes.

I saw the original Japanese version years later. But it will never, ever have the same magic for me that "The Magnificent Seven" has.

I've never watched Smallville. I've never been much of a Superman fan. And the young Superman in a small town thing didn't appeal to me at all.

But now I hear that other DC type characters are appearing. Any of you guys seen it recently? The photo looks cool, but do the super-guest appearances deliver?

Free Game- Swords & Wizardry / Cool setting GURPS Godzilla

Swords & Wizardry is a revisit of real "Old School" gaming. And yes my friends, it's free.Taking the original Dungeons and Dragons rule set from the mid 70's the authors goal seems to be to try and re-kindle that feeling many of us had as we perused the game for the first time. GURPS Godzilla
When I first ran across this site I dismissed it. I'm not into fighting monster games. But as the author Jonathon Woodward states in his introduction:

"When most people consider "GURPS Godzilla", they picture playing a very flat, scorched character. I'll admit, that doesn't sound like much fun. However, in the course of nearly three dozen films starring Godzilla and his antagonists, Toho Studios has created an exciting universe, full of things to do that don't involve 300 foot monsters stepping on your character's head.
